Recipe: Fresh Detox Smoothie

This fresh and clean smoothie is perfect for those easy days. Toss all ingredients in a blender and enjoy a tall glass or two!

1 stalk celery
1/2 cup kale
1 1/2 cups coconut water
1/2 avocado
1/2 cucumber
1 cup pineapple
1 teaspoon fresh grated ginger (optional)

  1. I'm not quite sure what exactly is being "Detoxed" by this. Mix a bunch of food products with their inherent nutritional values and all of a sudden it's a detox. What are the toxins being detoxed and why are a healthy liver and kidneys not able to do this as they were designed to? Personally, I feel that products marketed as detox products are a sales pitch for suckers. Eat well, keep your body healthy, "toxins" will be cleared. There are a small number of medical conditions were toxic build up of substances need to be removed by chelation therapies but these are exceedingly rare (e.g. Wilson Disease). Sometimes science is worth looking into, magical detoxifying agents are valuable for their placebo effect at best.
