October Highlights for Peaks Athletes!

Siong Hing- Cameron Highlands KOM - 8 min off Personal Best time!
Siong did the Cameron Highlands KOM race. Siong raced a tactically smart race finishing 20th out of 400+ riders. His time was only 7min behind the winner (very stiff competition this year) and he out-rode some of his toughest rivals! It was a great day of racing!

Jim Lewis -Hawaii Ironman World Championships

Jim lined up for the biggest race of his life, the Ironman World championships! He has been training hard all season, hitting multiple bests in wattage, swim and run speeds along the way. His race got off to a great start when he had a fabulous free ride on the feet (drafting) a women who was swimming exactly the pace he needed. He rode a conservative bike split (slightly faster than expected - but right on the power pacing plan), and started the run ready to rock. Unfortunately, as the heat index climbed to a searing 137 degrees, his pace slowed and he struggled while dealing with the extreme heat. Ultimately, however, sheer determination and Ironman toughness got him through the run and he was extremely happy to run across the finish line on this momentous day.

Becky Smith- Army Ten Miler Running Race
Becky ran in the Army Ten Miler Washington, DC road race. She has been working hard on her running, hitting the track, getting in the long runs and it really has paid off, she ran a very smart ten mile race - her Garmin file shows a nice steady pace (appropriately adjusted for the hills) with a strong finish. Way to go Becky!
